Miss D P

Miss Diane Patron's portrait

I am D P. Originally from the Island of Mauritius, I lived in Australia with my parents for many years. I have always taken heartly pleasure in travelling, meeting people from different cultures and unraveling the mysteries which each culture has to offer. Although I have had the opportunity to travel a little there are still so many places to discover...... An old Ghanaian proverb comes to mind at this point, and it maintains that "If you do not know where you are going, any road will get you there." So here I am in Japan, a country of extremes, a culture so diverse and so different from my own..so much to learn in so little time.... Anyway, I am enjoying my experience here at NTT in the era of Information Technology, Personal Computers, Networking. I particularly enjoy meeting overseas guests upon whom the rare privilege of a visit at the Musashino Research and Development Centre showrooms is bestowed. A feeling of awesomeness overcomes them as they leave with the memories of their sojourn to Tokyo fresh in their minds. Someday I know that I too will experience this feeling as I continue on my journey to wherever that road takes me.....

Mrs. S I

Suzuko Ishizawa's portrait

My name is S I. I belong to the Opto-electronics Laboratories and spend most of the work time struggling with the valves of vacuum evapolating instruments. As I face to machines in my work time, I like to do something related to nature which refleshes me very much. The acquaintance with Wakamatsu-san started also at the time when I joined the NTT naturalist circle. Recently I joined Wakamatsu's botanical sketching circle in lunch time there I find and learn many unexpected beauty of wild flowers to my pleasure. As I get tired with my busy life, I often sympathize with wild flowers which glow lively even though being neglected by people and I am encouraged by them. Well, I thank to be able to have happy days with a healthful family; husband, two daughters and a mother-in-law.

Martians and ET
by Marek Sadowski
dedicated to my parents, my brother and my friend Yoshiko

Do you like science fiction? I like it very much. Even worse, I am addicted to it. I love to dream about the travel to the stars... But up to now I have not realized what it really means to visit other planet, to meet other life forms, so called Extra Terrestrial Life Forms. And you know what? I have notion how first man/woman will feel if he or she faces other intelligent specie... Probably you would like to know how it is possible that I possess such knowledge. The reason is very simple. I have visited other planet and encountered Extra Terrestrial life form. But for them alien life form was me. Let me call that planet as Mars and its habitants as Martians. I would like to tell you something about Mars, about Martians and their habits. For sure it will be only my subjective notion, nothing more... In my opinion Martians are similar to us. But there are some slight differences in behavior, which made my stay there very exotic. They live in a great number on the Mars. Therefore, life conditions are not too good. An additional inconvenience is ground instability. It is the greatest planet problem, but for Martians it is just way of living in which fortune is very important factor. A great number of people live there and because of that their houses are very small and not every Martian can afford for a big house or apartment like in my country. In spite of small living place they are very happy. Instead of visiting each other in the evening they often fill small restaurants and coffee bars. They like to have fun together. I was invited few times for such parties. In fact they like them so much that they have developed all kinds of reasons to have fun. So they have Welcome and Farewell Parties, Opening and Closing Year Parties, and many others... They admire our way of living. One can meet there people who look exactly like our pop-stars. But they exaggerate in tries to assimilate our fashion or behavior. It is possible to see old people who wear clothes used only by teenagers in my world or hair colors which are acceptable only among punk or heavy rock funs. On the other hand their traditions are still alive and people wear traditional clothes for special occasions. They have traditional events and holidays unlike we have in my counrty. What was surprising, they do not care about their religion. Maybe for older generation it is more important, when they can feel cold blow of approaching death. In contrary in my country still many young and old people have still religious believes... In our worlds food and eating are very important part of life. When our appetites are quite the same, our tastes are completely different. Some Martian meals are still too strange for me to really enjoy them. The same situation is in opposite direction. Fortunately for me I was able to establish enough healthy diet to survive several months there. Also they have accepted several kinds of my dishes. But what was very sad for me I was considered as Alien even contacts between our 2 worlds were frequent and were established maybe few hundreds years ago. But many people hope that it will change soon and for new generations of Martians my specie will be considered as the same specie as Martian one. And in spite of some differences it will be beautiful if we can live together I hope our ways since they have been crossed for quite long time will never split. I hope I will return soon at that planet in the aim to learn Martian Language, which is considered as a very difficult because of different writing characters and completely different grammar. I hope you are enjoying your stay on planet Mars, as I enjoyed it.
